Elon Musk has confirmed that Grok 5, xAI’s next AI model, will launch by year-end. He’s also claimed that Grok 4, the company’s current model, is far superior to GPT-5, which OpenAI released less than an hour ago.

“Grok 5 will be out before the end of this year and it will be crushingly good,” Musk wrote on X.

“Grok 4 Heavy was smarter 2 weeks ago than GPT5 is now and G4H is already a lot better,” Musk stated. “Let that sink in.”

The key early backer of OpenAI also shared user reviews favoring Grok 4 over GPT-5, reinforcing his claim that xAI’s model is ahead.

Last month, xAI introduced Grok 4 with advancements such as a 100-fold increase in training capabilities, enhanced reasoning benchmarks, and integration of multi-modal systems.

Musk anticipates that Grok will begin inventing new technologies by 2026, potentially including discoveries in new physics as early as next year.

OpenAI launched GPT-5 today across Microsoft’s platforms, including Microsoft 365 Copilot, Copilot, GitHub Copilot, and Azure AI Foundry. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella touted the new model as being the most capable model for real-world tasks.

Commenting on Nadella’s statement, Musk said that “OpenAI is going to eat Microsoft alive.”
