To commemorate the 15th anniversary of Bitcoin Pizza Day, the historic first real-world Bitcoin transaction, web3 communities across the Philippines are hosting diverse events throughout May 2025.

The initiative started at the Espoir School of Life, which serves underprivileged children, and a public school in Barangay Pitogo, where connectivity has long been unreliable. 

The initial rollout includes six months of internet access, supported by a ₱155,400 investment per site. The program will enable online learning, teacher development, and access to services like telemedicine.

Bitget is considering expansion to more islands through collaborations with local NGOs and government units.

PNP Arrest Five Over Illegal Crypto Investment Scheme

The Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group arrested five individuals on May 13, 2025, in San Carlos City, Pangasinan, for allegedly operating an unregistered cryptocurrency investment scheme.

The operation, coordinated with the Securities and Exchange Commission, involved an entrapment strategy and resulted in charges under the Securities Regulation Code and the Cybercrime Prevention Act.

Coins.ph and Pays0 Collab for Crypto to Fiat Services

Coins.ph partnered with Pays0, a licensed payment provider, with the aim of offering their users an easier process to convert Philippine pesos to cryptocurrencies and vice versa.

The partnership is expected to help businesses and individuals send money faster, cheaper, and more securely, especially benefiting overseas Filipinos sending remittances.

Technically, blockchain technology, together with stablecoins like $USDT, will be utilized to ensure safe and efficient transactions.

For the involved entities, the initiative is seen to create a more inclusive financial system, giving users better access to digital payments and investments.

Paytaca Introduces Merchant of the Day Campaign

Paytaca, a Bitcoin Cash-focused company, recently launched its “Merchant of the Day” campaign.

The program involves Paytaca team members being stationed at partner merchant locations to directly interact with customers. They will offer personal introductions and practical demonstrations of the Paytaca Wallet App for Bitcoin Cash payments.

According to the firm, it aims to increase Paytaca Wallet user adoption by demonstrating the ease and convenience of Bitcoin Cash ($BCH) payments.

Their first outreach was at Books and Coffee in Ormoc City, a component city in the province of Leyte.

Vibes TCG Asian Championship to be Held at YGG Play Summit

In an X post, YGG Pilipinas teased the upcoming Asian Championship of the web3 game Vibes TCG of web3 project Pudgy Penguins. They revealed that it would be held at this year’s YGG Play Summit.

The YGG Play Summit is the annual event of Yield Guild Games (YGG) that is focused on web3 gaming’s future, featuring a hackathon, game expo, esports tournaments, and insights from industry leaders on gaming, digital ownership, and global web3 projects.

Hiraya Network Inks Partnership with Meso Finance

Hiraya Network, Aptos Foundation’s local initiative, partnered with Meso Finance and is hosting a giveaway to commemorate the event.

Twenty winners will each receive $500 in $MESO tokens, along with whitelist spots for Meso Finance’s upcoming IDO.

“Etherium” Search in PH

Recent Google Trends data reveals a growing interest in Ethereum among Filipinos, highlighted by a noticeable spike in searches for the misspelled term “Etherium.”

While some, like bitcoin influencer Kyle Chassé, see the rise in misspelled queries as evidence of retail interest, others, like Coin Bureau’s Nic, attribute the momentum to institutional investors, macroeconomic factors, and whale-driven FOMO.

In the Philippines, “ethereum” was most searched in regions like Cagayan Valley and Bicol, while “etherium” saw minor spikes mainly in SOCCSKSARGEN and Ilocos.

The average interest level for “ethereum” was significantly higher (45) compared to “etherium” (7) over the past month.
